The Office of Attorney General is pleased to be partnering with nearly two dozen law enforcement agencies throughout the Commonwealth this summer as they host Virginia Rules Camps. The Virginia Rules Camp grant program provides funding to police departments and sheriff’s offices to host summer camps, creating opportunities for young people to build positive relationships with law enforcement officers within their community, have outdoor camp-style experiences, and learn about Virginia law.
The camp program has grown from two camps in 2014 (Richmond City and Chesapeake) to 20 camps in 2017 and it’s likely that even more localities will be interested in hosting their very own camp in 2018! 2017 grantees include:
- Albemarle Police Department
- Amherst County Sheriff’s Office
- Chesapeake Police Department
- Chesterfield Sheriff’s Office
- Franklin County Sheriff’s Office
- Galax Police Department
- Gloucester Sheriff’s Office
- Hampton Police Department
- Hanover County Sheriff’s Office
- Middlesex Sheriff’s Office
- Newport News Police Department
- Norfolk Sheriff’s Office (See local coverage from wavy.com)
- Northern Virginia Regional Gang Task Force
- Orange County Sheriff’s Office
- Page County Sheriff’s Office
- Pittsylvania County Sheriff’s Office
- Portsmouth Police Department
- Richmond Police Department
- Stafford County Sheriff’s Office
- Washington County Sheriff’s Office
The 2018 Virginia Rules Camp grant guidelines and application for funding should be available in January 2018.
